Funeral services will be conducted for Sandis “Flap” Clay, Sr. 66, at noon Saturday at Saint Peter United Methodist Church with Rev. Arthur Lee Alexander, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Saint Peter United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 8am Saturday at the church until time of funeral service.

A native and resident of Jeanerette, LA, he passed at 6:02 P.M. Sunday at his residence following a brief illness.

He was a member of Saint Peter United Methodist Church. He was also a 1964 Graduate of Francis Marion Boley High School, Jeanerette, LA where he played football from 1962-1963.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Veronica Lumpkin Clay of Jeanerette, LA; seven sons, Sandis Clay, Jr.(Sarah), Van Clay, Dwayne Clay, and Curtis Lumpkin, Sr. (Melissa) all of Jeanerette, LA; Cleo Gibson and Willie Lumpkin (Lakeisha) of Tulsa, Ok, and Linellle Lumpkin of Houston, TX; nine daughters, Kendra Clay (Robert), Sherika Clay, Deagra Lumpkin (Titus) and Eunice Polidore (Rivers) all of Jeanerette, LA, Evelyn Lumpkin and Angela Tolliver (Ervin) of Houston, TX, Anetra Barabin (Joseph) and Renerta Lumpkin of Baton Rouge, LA, and Christine L. Lockette (Tony) of Broussard, LA; his mother, Jessie Mae Joe Clay of Jeanerette, LA; one special son he reared, Hosier Merritte of Jeanerette, LA; one special son/nephew, Rodney Marks Sr. of Jeanerette, LA; one special niece, Jalayna Marks of Jeanerette, LA; three sisters, Alice Clay Boyance (Donald), Diana Clay Marks (Roy), and Linda Clay Lewis (Edward, Jr.) all of Jeanerette, LA; 55 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Clay, Sr.; one brother, Arthur Clay, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Cora Francois Clay, and Oscar “Son” Clay, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Corrine Branch Hawk, Jessie Hawk, Sr. and Dennis Joe, Sr.; one nephew, Edward Mckinle0y Lewis.

Active Pallbearers will be Michael Lewis, Sr., Tremaine Lewis, Curtis Lumpkin, Sr., Van Clay, Dwayne Clay and Robert Lee Brooks.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Herman Ray Bouie, Sr., Edward Lewis, Sr., Roy P. Marks, Sr., Sandis Clay, Jr., Hosier Merritte, Rodney Marks, Wendell Marks, Sr. Willie Lumpkin, Rivers Polidore, Peter Lumpkin, Eldridge Marks, Tony Lockette, Roy P. Marks, Jr., Titus Johnson, and Edward Broussard.
