Clifton August, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Clifton August, Sr., 64 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Jeanerette, LA with Rev. Dismas Mauk, SVD, celebrant.
He will await the resurrection at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church cemetery, Jeanerette, LA.
A gathering of family and friends will be at the church on Saturday 8 a.m. until the time of service. Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. Tributes 9:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
On May 27, 2012 the caretakers of heaven’s garden were in need of another rare and lovely rose. They searched the earth and in Iberia Medical Center, New Iberia, LA, they found the perfect bloom, with permission from the heavenly Father, the rose we knew as Clifton August was picked from his earthly home and replanted in heaven. There he continues to bloom for evermore.
Clifton attended Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School until the 8th grade, then Jeanerette Colored High School, later attended F. M. Boley High School where he graduated in 1965 and went on to Grambling College in Grambling, LA. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era in Vietnam. Later in life, he was elected as Parish Councilman for District 12. He was a former employee of Premier Offshore and Offshore Energy as a Drive Pipe Welder for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 549. His favorite pastimes were fishing, making baits, off track betting, and shooting pool. He was a member of the tournament bass fishing club “Century 21” and “B.B.B.B.C.” (Boley Black Bass Busters Club). He fished tournaments in Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and all parts of the Quad State Circuit.
He leaves to cherish his memory and in God’s care one son, Da’mon August of Jeanerette, LA; three grandchildren, Oceana August, Da’monique August, and Da’Niyah August all of Jeanerette, LA two sisters, Emily A. Green of Jeanerette, LA and Cynthia Faye Matthews of Jeanerette, LA; seven sisters-in-law, Janet L. August of Jeanerette, LA, Nursey McNeal of New Iberia, LA, Ruby Dupuis (George), Patricia Alexander, Shirley Raymond, Trucella Johnson and Regina A. Grant; one Brother-in-law, Leroy Alexander, Sr.; two aunts, and one uncle, Rosa Mary Matthew of Galveston, Texas, Maude Conner of New Iberia, LA and Herman Connor of Four Corners, LA; three godchildren, Marcus Manuel, Carla Wynette Lewis and Tyra Berdise Loston along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He now joins in glory with his wife, Sophie Alexander August; one son, Clifton August Jr.; his parents, Samuel August and Hazel Conner August; three brothers, Samuel August, Jr., Calvin August and Carl Wayne August.
Clifton leaves behind a strong legacy. He will be sadly missed by relatives and friends who realize that earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.
